cluster bombs.

norway has started a treaty in oslo that would ban cluster bombs. over 100 countries have signed it, including canada and lebanon (*see 2006's israeli cluster bombings upon beirut). other countries will not sign it: the united states, russia, china, and israel. which can only lead me to believe that they enjoy killing children...b/c thats overwhelmingly what cluster bombs do. even months and years after the bombs have been dropped. b/c it is a coward's weapon.

tracking.
=====we played a show recently. there is audio. there is (HD!) video. but i need to sort it out. "sort it out" = trying to figure out how to watch a 2+GB HD video file on my windows machine. bc quicktime and my 1GB ram is giving me the finger. but the audio sounds good. we played a really long set. it was like 50 minutes. which is about twice as long as usual. i will try to get some audio up soon, and give my pc steroids or something re: the video.
=====im watching this computer screen tracking my wifes airplane from charlotte to indianapolis. shes been away at some teacher convention thingy in washington dc. for the last 9 days. which - is a long time i guess. its weird being married for a few years...you start to lose some of yourself in each other. and 9 days seems like forever.
=====i saw radiohead in concert (time #3) a few days ago. it was very pleasant. i hope all of the folks that i know who went to the show had as fun of a time as i did. big ups to hien for hooking it up.
=====the bodies exhibition that is currently in downtown indianapolis is SOOO worth the price of admission. my mom and i saw it the other day and it was probably the coolest thing ive seen all year.
=====im still working on the jbgs sessions. blah blah blah...

more on iran.

+++ this is a horribly photoshopped picture of irans long range missles being fired. haha.
+++part of me actually HOPES that israel or the united states attacks iran. just to see gas jump INSTANTLY to +$10/gal. since we are so into this concept of doing ourselves in w/ our juvenile attempts at diplomacy...er i mean sabre rattling. at what point does this maniacle CHAW-SPITTING-THESE-COLORS-DONT-RUN-TOBY-KIETH national security fervor actually HURT our national security?
+++its worth noting that israel has war games and flys their cluster-bomb-toting war planes around all the time. and have actually DROPPED A SHIT LOAD OF CLUSTER BOMBS IN BERUIT (thats in lebanon - a soverign country) WITHIN THE PAST TWO YEARS!!!!! oh yeah - and HAS NUCLEAR WEAPONS (from usa)...but everyone is afraid of iran?!
+++the world would be a lot better off in fixing its global problems if we would call a spade a spade. instead of fabricating lies to justify already predetermined ends.
thingys.
##heres a recording of our last show.
##mixing on the tracks continues...
##theres some new pics on that image thingy to the right. it only holds 500 images though. im pissed. come on google. i know you have the storage...
##the website is down cracks me up.
##i dont see why everyone is so afraid of iran having long range missles. especially while pakistan (along w/ china, india, and THE GREATER WESTERN WORLD) has nuclear weapons. if you walk into an NRA meeting w/ a slingshot i dont think anyone is going to give a crap.

oil.
sorry - ive been meaning to rant about oil for some time:
**drilling for more oil is a good idea. FOR THE CENTURY BEFORE THE ONE WE ARE PRESENTLY IN, THAT IS. for reals. what addiction can be solved by using the very thing the addict is addicted to? furthermore - as long as we are dealing in oil - we are always going to be at a tremendous disadvantage. even if we find a shit ton of oil - WE CANNOT REFINE IT FOR YEARS AND YEARS AND YEARS. you know - when gasoline is like $8/gal? by which time, we better damn have a shit ton of investment in other energies (would it kill us to put up a couple of f'ing wind farms?), not to mention, at the same time we will probably by then be dealing with what could just as well be the onset of a full scale energy war with...oh - just about anybody that wants gas. like us. i mean - as long as we are cooking dirt on friggin mars - youd think we could figure out some energy systems that make sense for a long time - and not just right now.
im looking at you energon cubes...
**so for some stupid reason the supreme court just cut the monetary judgement against exxon for the valdez oil spill. thats that thing thats widely regarded as the largest ecological disaster in human history. they now have to pay about 1/10 of what they orignally were made to pay. you know...because exxon is so broke these days. (they netted $11.66 billion last fiscal quarter - the biggest quarterly profit by a company ever).
**ethynol aint cuttin it. nice try. doesnt work. move on. quickly please.
**can we build some more trains now? im guessing so.

dennis the menace.
i watch cspan a lot. today they were reading impeachment resolutions for hours. it was awesome.
----------------------------
(The Politico) Rep. Dennis Kucinich (D-Ohio) introduced 35 articles of impeachment against President Bush on Monday night, reading the resolution into the Congressional Record.
Kucinich, who unsuccessfully sought the Democratic presidential nomination this year, unveiled a litany of alleged illegal and improper acts by Bush, including war crimes.

so is it summer yet?
i have been doing a little spinning at the spoon on sundays here in town. bb and rebecca ciaglia host this lovely record party type of thing called sundown sundays. from 9p-midnight @ the runcible spoon in bloomington. i typically mess around a little bit at the end of the sessions. the above photo is of a doodle that maggie did during last weeks spinnin.
*we are looking for another house bc the dude who owns this one and the contracted property rental agency had a falling out. and its all fucked. onions to them. but whatever, it could be worse.

LEAP!
so today is leap day. i feel like i should do something really cool today - something that i would only do every four years to celebrate such an occurrence. but i cant really think of anything, so screw that.
so maggie, krampy, mogwai, anakin, and i will be moving to a different house on the other side of town. actually, weve already started. its a lot bigger. most people i know tend to move to different residences fairly frequently. we have been in our current house for about 6 years - which is about how long we have been together, and is also about how long goodhands team has been in existence. it will be weird being in a different house doing all this recording, mixing, living, eating, etc...but sometimes its time to move the f on.
speaking of mixing, i started mixing the last session. mixing in the lightest since of the word. im pretty much just trying to weed out tracks that are blank, or to soft - that kind of thing. so i guess you could say its more like pre-mixing. jbg has made a couple mixes of some of the stuff since its been squatting in his hard drive for nearly a month. i will have those up on the remix page sometime soon.
been getting into this stuff lately:

stimu-less.
so theres this grand idea about to be implemented in the usa: the economic stimulus package. thats great - it means that my wife and i will get $1200.
[*full disclosure: and we will spend it.]
unfortunately, considering where our government is getting the money for this (china), and where most of the imports that we buy come from (china), it begs a couple of questions:
a) what % of middle and lower income people getting this money (making < $75,000) are going to spend most of it on products from china sold at...lets say...WAL-MART? b) which country's economy are we really trying to stimulate? we can be assured that the spending of this money (that is being printed out of thin air) stands a good chance of devaluing itself by way of being spent. because our trade policies and realities w/ china are a large part of what is bogging the $USD down. (along w/ our out of control overspending all the way around...) it makes me wonder how many vicious circles of long term damage our government can simultaneously get us into...all under the banner of what is best for us.
stimulus package didnt work in 2001 - didnt work before the depression. short term solutions are rarely sufficient for long term problems.
bluh...

marathonpacks.
earlier, i put up a blurb about my top 30 albums for the year 2007. eric harvey, a friend from my dorm days at indiana university (back then he used to roll us these "cigerettes" that were so huge he would proceed to write the word HOSS on the side), has this blog called marathonpacks. its a pretty decent place to find music and show reviews...and is well connected into the state of the bloomington happs. anyway - you can read my entirely too descriptive list on his blog now. along w/ some other year end stuff from eric and friends.

$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$ (pt2).
the biggest bank in the united states, citigroup, inc., just sold off 11% of itself to the abu dhabi investment authority from the united arab emirates in exchange for $7.5B in cash. that is because of continued fallout from the mortgage market "crisis". (what?! americans cant handle the responsibility of credit? wha?!)and wall street "rallied" because of this. perhaps wall street will "rally" too, then, when the dollar collapses completely - which is what i believe this is an indication of. if the united states were a person, or a company, or a business of any sort - we would have been bankrupt several several several years ago. but instead we perpetually create economic gymnastics to keep telling ourselves that we are financially sound. and just keep on printing (ever decreasing in value) money.
makes sense to me - since we are already giving a huge percentage of our collective income to mid east oil, we might as well top it off by giving stakes of our public financial instituations to the region as well. as one good addiction deserves another. what COULD they be doing w/ all that money they get from us? (besides car-bombing our occupation and making a building thats about half a mile high - that is...)
and what better time for impending fiscal doom, than when we are spending somewhere around
$300,000 a minute on a war.
this - a war that is somehow supposed to make me feel safer, by virtue of its most-expensive-war-in-the-history-of-the-planet status, is making me feel remarkably LESS safe. im fucking sick of this. i try to stay out of politics when i can bc im tired of the whole mess...but any kids that my wife and i are thinking about having will be born in to more debt than any country has ever known.
i hate republicans. they largely got us into this mess. they will deny it though - saying we were attacked first, yadda yadda...(look at the history of our involvment in the middle east bitches...) and the religious right (the one that is presidential-candidate-less at the moment) must have missed a few sunday sermons...bc god isnt cool w/ killing people or forcing there hand for no good reason. hes about understanding and withholding judgement. or so i thought. and you know what else? i also hate democrats. b/c they dont care about people as much as their own party - and the need to want/do opposite of whatever republicans want/do. and are weak minded and weak willed to commit to any actual change. both parties scream about such changes that need so badly to occur - yet neither has the sack to actually lift a fucking finger. except to keep giving themselves raises...or drop bombs. actually maybe what i really hate is the fact that theres only two choices. either this, or that. bc our countrys dynamic is so simple that it can be broken into two choices that can quickly lift us out of any problem. give me a fucking break. democrawhat?
being strong on defense apparently means selling your country up the river (ussr anyone?). yet we dont have enough money for health care. i havent had health care in 10 yrs. o well. hope i dont get sick. my country sure doesnt give a fuck. we dont even have enough money for CHILD health care. yet 70%+ of the country does not want to be in this war, and 70%+ thinks child health care is a good investment. democrawho?
but whatever- maybe we will just keep talking about those "illegal aliens" and "communist china" (who is lending us more money than any country has ever lended any other country - ever - by virtue of our debt that they gobble up). and of course, the "terrorists." b/c they are all obvously to blame for the fact that we can't balance a fucking check book.
its a joke. it must be.
pat buchanan, who i typically think of as a right wing nutcase (full disclosure: the right wing kinda thinks he's a nutcase too) just published a book that cites the "end of america." thats an incredibly sad prospect...but also a fairly realistic one. history shows the beginnings of decay of every major empire have characteristically been flanked w/ rash decisions which worsen already irreparable damages.
i dont hate america. i know we have it better than a lot of other places. but we are also seemingly hell bent on propetuating ideoligical warfare at the cost of our general security and well being. and that of other countries. which is a sign of desperation. and pretty lame indeed.
in less than a year we will have a new president and a new congress. and a new party will most definitely be in power (according to both parties strategists) - and a new chance to try to fix some of the problems we face. but im pretty sure that will not be allowed to happen, regardless.
----

my ear drum is broken.
i have an ear drum infection. i went to prompt care bc i, like nearly FIFTY MILLION OTHER AMERICANS, don't have health insurance. why? bc the health care system in the united states is a hysterical joke. i hear some guy did a movie about this recently. i had a clinic visit where they cleaned out an ear and prescribed me drugs.
clinic visit: $220
drugs: $110
i can't help but wonder how this compares w/ other industrialized countries' costs for the same services. if i were a betting man, i would say it does not compare well. i mean if i didnt have the money to pay for this, i would be screwed. and that would be that. as a musician i would have probably risked irreparable damage to my hearing/livelyhood simply bc...uh...the gigantic drug lobby runs the shit.
and why is that?
the amount of money that is being put into 'health care' in the united states should be able to pay for a universal system. and then some. we can put a damn remote control car on MARS...but cant seem to provide basic health care for our citizens.

labor day post.
1) the videoing rolls along.
2) i love when they show bbc world on pbs. it gives me great joy.
on it they were making references to how the american occupations of
afghanistan and iraq have now claimed more american lives than the
attacks on 9/11. which i find interesting.
recent observations:

dabrye | instrumentls
pierre boulez | structures pour deux pianos

financial report of the u.$. government.
this is the us government assessment of its own financial condition. interesting that its about 3x-10x worse than any politician lets on. it appears that we use old accounting techniques to hide how bad it really is. using modern accounting techniques shows a quite messier picture...kinda like the newscasters faces on hdtv bc you can see what their skin really looks like.
i found this on congressman jim coopers [tenn] website bc he just wrote a book about this which talks about how bad it really is.

$427.6 billion for the pentagon.
"US House clears $427.6 billion for Pentagon" is the headline i just read.
i said it once, and i will say it again: no country budgets this kind of money for anything - except america. for military. consequently i hear theres no money for health care or education reform. odd.
perhaps if we werent pointing our guns (or more importantly - SELLING our guns) all over the world - we might not need to spend so much money on "defense." of course "defense" in this case really means "supporting the ultracostly occupations of mideast countries".

dominique wilkins.
recently i was reminded how i felt when i saw dominique wilkins play at larrys game in 1986 at market square arena. what reminded me of that? well, seeing the liars play live - a day before seeing radiohead live. i heart chicago.

things and stuff like that.
some things that may or may not interest you:
1) indonesians needs help. they are averaging about 2.5 cataclysmic disasters a year it seems.
2) i wish people at ght shows would do the 'hands-in-the-air-prayer-dance' that all the modern christian chart topping anthems evoke. sorry - sometimes i get angered by the fact that 40% of my cable (the $14/month kind) channels are gateways into ultraevangelism.
3) a dvd is in the works. well, its in the pre works i guess. lots of footage to mill through. speaking of 'lots': TONS of live ght audio over here.
4) goodlistens:
burial - burial <---------------------(album of the moment)
alva noto + ryuichi sakamoto - vrioon
meshuggah - catch thirty three
boards of canada - trans canada highway
colleen - mort aux vaches
thom yorke - the eraser

so&so&such&such
disc2 of plethra is done. its at the bottom of this page. (or just click here) the deal behind this 'dj mix' (except im not a dj) - is that some associates bestowed about 6G of raw audio upon my harddrive - and i mixed some of it together like somekind of sound smoothie.
i wish samuel barber would have had some mellotrons to play w/.............
